Day 4: At Hongik University, Seoul and going back to Cebu, Philippines

Monday came, but  my flight was not until 10:15PM, via the same airline – Cebu Pacific Air. I checked-out from Jun Ho’s condominium few minutes pass the hour of 10AM. And since, I still have a full day to wander, I decided to go to Hongik University at  Hongdae. Getting there was no fuss, since it is very accessible via Seoul’s subway through the station named after itself and just follow the arrows overhead, and it should tell you which exit to take.

Hongik University area appeared to be one of the most popular sites to visit when in Seoul. Tourists of different nationalities are flooding the street and a Tourist Information Desk/Assistance is even readily available to assist. A lot of the shops and stores were already open as early as noon time, while only few were still closed. You may want to bring an extra shopping bag, since a lot of items for sale are very easy on the budget.

I ate another Tuna-Mayonnaise onigiri and a chocolate cookie I purchased the night before and I stopped by a Turkish Kebab House – the Istanbul Kebab, to have a taste of their Shawarma;  one of my most favorite food in the world.

And, for my daily dose of caffeine, I went to Angel-in-us Coffee, and I never expected how expensive their Café Americano was until I checked my credit card receipt. A large cup of Iced Americano costs 5800 won, which is about P257 in our local currency (PhP). The unmetered free Wi-Fi, nice and cool ambience, and the wide windows to watch passersby definitely compensated for the price. I burned about two (2) hours just sitting back and relaxing, while transferring some photos, updating my Instagram, listening to some 80’s music, and reading a book that was given to me during my Templestay the previous day.

I wandered some more by plodding the distant streets within the area and stopped by Baskin’ Robins for a cold Yoghurt ice cream. I stayed for another hour, to continue reading the book that I got for free, which was “Practice from the Heart. The Handbook of Practices in the Plum Village Tradition.

The “AMMA Indian Restaurant”

Through wandering, I found another jewel of deliciousness – another authentic Indian Restaurant hidden at the 2nd floor of a building in Sinchon, the “AmmA Indian [& Nepali] Resturant”.

This restaurant is located at:
57-64, Changcheon-dong, Seodaemun-gu | 2~3F, Seoul, South Korea
Phone: +82 2-332-9302

And what was so unforgettable about this restaurant was the Indian waiter, who was very polite, and sincere. The food was truly amazing, and it didn’t cost that much. For my entire meal, I only paid 17,000 won, which is about PHP 800.00.

Right after this hefty meal, I felt like it’s time for me to head to Incheon International Airport, so I took a subway and got off at Hongik University Station where I transferred to the AREX line where I took the “All Stop Train” since I still have about 4 hours before my flight departure back to Cebu.

Flight back to Cebu, via Cebu Pacific Air 5J 129

I arrived at the airport around 5:00PM. The counter was already open, and so I checked-in early. And since I was traveling solo, I was lucky enough to be offered an “exit” row at seat “1A” which is normally offered for an additional payment of PHP 850 (approx.) for international flights.

Did you know that EXIT seats are generally offered, considering the following:

  • You are 15 years old or above and has the capacity to help, in cases of any emergencies.
  • Physically fit with no discernible condition.
  • Don’t have a responsibility with your co-passengers (solo travelers)

Exit Row; extra legroom… more space…

There are a lot of things that you can do inside Incheon International Airport. According to, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki, it is “one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. Since 2005, it has been rated the best airport worldwide by Airports Council International every year. It is also rated as the world’s cleanest airport and the world’s best international transit airport by Skytrax. Putting this in mind, there isn’t going to a boring moment inside.

BUT REMEMBER, once you go inside the “Concourse Terminal” there will be no more turning back, you will not be allowed to re-enter the main terminal, since the train that goes back, will be carrying International Arriving passengers. Always double check, and never leave any of your belongings behind.
