Just like many other hotels stays, it all starts with the Check In! And here, it starts at 3PM. I arrived a little early, hence I needed to wait for about 25 minutes or so, since they were still preparing my room. It was fine because the front desk officer offered to keep my bag safe, so I can freely roam around Costabella while waiting. And this is very important, if you used a credit card to book your stay, you need to present the same card during check-in.
And although the resort posted a new normal guideline because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it doesn’t really feel like new normal at all, while still having the feeling of being sanitary and safe, because all staff are always wearing their mask. And, although almost all of the guests, including myself, doesn’t wear mask all the time, physical distancing, as part of the new normal guidelines, was very well observed.
Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel is located in Buyong Rd, Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City which is at the south east side of Mactan Island, and coming from the airport, it only takes about 23-25 minutes to get here. And, if you’re from Cebu City, it only takes about 40-50 mins ride, which is why it is one of the preferred getaways for a quick staycation or vacation.
Based on their website, Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel has a total of 156 rooms, 3 restaurants, 2 of which are closed maybe because of the covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, it is okay, because the main restaurant is still able to accommodate all guests, even with physical distancing taken into consideration; and what I love most about it; it is al fresco dining.
For the smokers, this is a great place for you to cut on your smoking, because the entire resort is a non-smoking zone, but you need not worry, since there’s a room dedicated especially for you, however you can only use this between 7AM to 2AM, or smoke inside your rooms instead as long as it is a room designated for smokers.
Aside from the beach, there are 2 swimming pools where you can take a dip, and it is located in the middle of the small and tall buildings, which also provide sunshades to the pool, for those who would like to take a dip and yet keep the tan away.
The sand is always kept clean all the time, and what I love most in this area is the boardwalk which is a very nice place to relax by the beach; having light snacks and an ice-cold drink at the cabana, chair, or day beds, or perhaps lounging at the pods or sunbathing under beach umbrellas right at the sea shore.
Free a la carte Breakfast was provided together with my booking, however, if you’re a vegan or a vegetarian, keeping up with your healthy daily dietary allowance can be a little challenging due to limited options in their menu. For my breakfast the following day I checked in, I had sautéed vegetables and scrambled eggs, and for my 2nd day breakfast, I had sautéed vegetables and scrambled eggs where it appears the eggs becoming less, and less scarce on the 2nd day. For my first night’s dinner, I had cheese pizza, and 2nd night’s dinner, I had grilled cheese sandwich by the beach. And, just like how good they looked, they all tasted delicious. I have posted a link to the resort’s menu below, for you to get an idea what is being served and their costs.
The “Deluxe Poolside” Room
I reserved a “Deluxe Poolside” Room with Breakfast directly through Costabella’s website, because it came out more affordable after adding all the fees and taxes, compared to booking through 3rd party booking sites. And my credit card was only charged 48hours before the date of my arrival.
The size of the room is perfect for me, and the bed can comfortably fit 2 adults and a small child. The room smells good and it looks clean, and it comes with complimentary bottled water, some teas, cream, sugar and instant coffees. A small fridge is provided, as well as a safe is available inside the wardrobe to keep your valuables safe while you enjoy your day at the beach.
Free toiletries such as, soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner, as well as a dental kit is included, and hot and cold shower is also available.
Some channels don’t appear clear; however, it is not a big deal for me because I didn’t come to here to watch TV. Moreover, after probably few adjustments, like doing a channel scan, it appeared to have mitigated the problem.
This “Deluxe Poolside” Room come with its almost own private balcony, however, on higher levels, the balconies look more like shared.
What to do at Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel, aside from swimming
You can use this bike for an hour, or as long as nobody is in queue to use it, as well as the gym; all you need to do is make a prior reservation at the reception. You can use the Kayak for free, as well as have an awesome swim time at the Magic Float.
The kid’s area is currently closed, but a small playhouse is available. I’m not just sure about the whale watching and the diving, as well as the spa, if they are currently in operation.
WIFI Internet is good, and an ATM is available inside the hotel, in case you need to pull out some extra cash. The resort is not too far from the main road; it only takes about 5 minutes’ walk, and there are already tricycles available, to take you anywhere within Mactan.
Just need a quick getaway? Day Use is available…
If an overnight stay just wouldn’t fit on your busy schedule, day use is also available and it is inclusive of lunch with unlimited rice and a round of iced tea. A quick vitamin sea could be all you need to help freshen up your mind for the next morning’s hectic day at work. You can just pack up your swimwears, since towel are already available for a P100 rental fee. Day trips are from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 7 days a week.
